It is hard to believe that you can walk around a mountain for a whole day, or even stay overnight. This statement does not in any way refer to a large amusement park built by the Vietnamese on the flat top of Ba Na Hills. Moreover, these places were once chosen by the French aristocracy, and now any tourist can make a comfortable ascent in the cable car trailer.

French resort in the mountains of Vietnam

On top of Ba Na Hills

The new-fashioned resort and amusement park, erected by hard-working Vietnamese people at Ba Na Hills, is less than an hour from Danang. However, modern tourists are not the first visitors to this unique Vietnamese complex.

The fact is that the first to discover this place was the French travelers who appreciated it. And it was in the very first years of the twentieth century. Of course, there was still no cable car, so the French had to climb the mountain with their feet. But, having risen, they appreciated the luxurious nature of Ba Na Hills, a unique climate that literally returns health.

For several years, the colonists built the roads and built two hundred luxurious villas. Plus, all the necessary infrastructure for the rest of the aristocracy was created: a stadium, shops, restaurants with various cuisines, hotels. The cultural program was provided by the opera house.

The popular resort hosted holidaymakers from the beginning of the century until the beginning vietnam war. In the mid-forties, life on the mountain stopped, and the bombing destroyed this pearl of colonial life. And now, walking along the plateau, you can stumble upon the remains of the villas of the French aristocrats, go inside the surviving rooms, imagine what life was here until the forties.

How to get there

Ba Na Hills is located 30 kilometers from the center of Da Nang.

Public transport from Da Nang to the mountain does not go, so you can get either with an organized tour, or on their own. Ba Na Hills is a popular tourist destination, so many city hotels offer their guests a paid transfer service.

Another option is a taxi, you can agree on the way back with the driver. Late in the evening, tourist buses and taxis return to the city, and there may be no transport. Although there are cases when the local population helps out, the Vietnamese can throw backward tourists directly to the hotel. But it’s better not to count on such luck.

The easiest way to get as always remains bike rental. Cheap and more or less convenient. However, weather conditions must be taken into account. In January, for example, it often rains in Da Nang and it’s better not to sit down on a bike without a rain coat.

Cable car and prices

Reaching the foot of Ba Na Hills, you need to buy a ticket to the cable car.

Before entering, pay attention to the abundance of certificates from the Guinness Book of Records. This cable car is considered the longest, plus experts recognized it as a record holder in height. The line is divided into two parts, you have to pay only for the first. Cozy trailers fly over the picturesque slopes. Below are floating luxurious Asian forests, you can see a beautiful waterfall.

When you buy a ticket or after landing in the funicular booth, you can take a map in English. This will simplify the orientation between the sights of a mountain resort.

The funicular brings tourists to the plateau from which the journey starts around the resort. To climb to the top and entertainment located there, you can use the small tourist tram and the second part of the cable car.

You can go back down the same cable car. In principle, most tourists have time to explore all the sights of interest in one light day. But if you want to meet the dawn or continue to inspect the local beauty, without spending time on the road, you can stay in one of the local hotels.

Who is in the forest, who is to Buddha

Usually people climb into the mountains for sharp impressions, beautiful views, unusual nature and team spirit. Yes, and Ba Na Hills rise for the same. Here, beautiful nature and clean air. Even the French pioneers discovered that the local air has a special regenerating effect. For this reason, a high-mountain resort for French aristocrats was created here.

Tourists say that getting to the top of Ba Na Hills, you find yourself in a fairy tale about twelve months. The months, of course, do not change so quickly here. But in the morning, vacationers get into the spring, in the afternoon, summer looks on the plateau, in the evening autumn comes to visit, and at night it is quite winter temperature. These climate features should be taken into account when hiking in local forests and during long walks of more than one day.

In developing this fundamental project, which the local population is proud of, the Vietnamese have provided entertainment for lovers of hiking in the mountains. To do this, they laid trekking routes through the most beautiful places of the mountain. And there is something to see! Waterfalls, cliffs, mountain jungles and pine forests alternate with the remnants of French mansions. The spectacle is reminiscent of the apocalypse, although, taking into account the hostilities, it was so.

Amusement park inside the mountain

But most tourists visit the mountain resort with day trips. For families with children invented the amusement park “Fantasy”.

Here you can find entertainment for all ages and for different tastes.

For fans of gaming machines, there is a whole room where you can “get stuck” for the whole day.

Dinosaur Park – a thematic attraction in which figures of various representatives of the Jurassic period are collected, which not only stand, but also move, and even make sounds.

Children will be able to rush over and build on the various attractions. And for kids, there is a swimming pool and playgrounds with merry-go-rounds and swings. There are also several cinemas and a wax museum.

Going to visit Ba Na Hills, you need to take care of three things: take a camera to take a lot of photos, take care of comfortable shoes for a long trip and not forget the good mood.

The first vivid impression is a fantasy park with designer flowerbeds, sculptures, openwork lanterns and other romantic paraphernalia. Everything shimmers in bright colors, among which now and then snow-white bridesmaid dresses flash. This place is very popular among married couples.

Park with flower beds

You can wander through the park for a very long time. It is necessary to inspect all the rare flowers and shrubs, “play” in huge chess and count the fish on the fountain. And if you’re tired – go down to the basement, over which there is a sign inviting you to try French wines. Drunkenness is not satisfied with the fight here, on the contrary, at the entrance there is an installation of figures and wine barrels.

At the same level is the sports section: tennis court and downhill sleigh ride. Here are two pagodas and a huge statue of Buddha. All this is interspersed with restaurants luring tourists, fountains and places for recreation and photo shoots.

Rising to a higher level, you can see buildings familiar to you since childhood. At the very top of the Vietnamese reproduced medieval French city. Judging by the reduced copy of Notre Dame de Paris, this is a piece of the French capital. The masters tiled everything with tiles, decorated the square with fountains and invited musicians who create a special mood. A little further there is a Catholic cathedral.

Of course, there has not been without restaurants with varied cuisine. Among the pagodas and statues you can eat Caucasian shashlik or order a teapot with fragrant tea and get a real tea ceremony as a gift.

The mountain resort Ba Na Hills is an amazing symbiosis of beautiful Asian nature with skillful human hands that can turn old ruins into a wonderful entertainment center that attracts tourists. This place is worth the time and money spent on visiting.
