Top 13 happy beaches of Fukuoka
In Fukuoka, there are both popular beaches and deserted coastal areas, where vacationers rarely drop in. It would be possible to make a list of the most beautiful, or the smallest, or most deserted beaches of the island according to the principle “Do not go there! Come here! ”
But we will go the other way. And we will move in a circle along the coast from north to south, simultaneously telling about the beaches encountered. And start with the local celebrity – the beach “Bai Sao”. Go?
1. “Bai Sao” (aka Sao Beach or Bai Sao)
This is the most beautiful beach of the island – an unequivocal decision of most travelers who have visited here. It is located on the southeast coast and is a narrow strip of white sand stretching for 1.5 km along the sea.
This place stands out pure virgin beauty, reminiscent of the famous advertising “Bounty.” There are palm trees leaning over the water and rope swings. True, for a short-term rental of the simplest attraction, you will have to pay some money to the owner of a nearby restaurant. The white sand of the beach competes in beauty with the blue of the sea. The water in it is clean, gently sloping. To reach a depth sufficient for swimming, you will have to walk more than a dozen meters. If you wish, you can go diving, snorkeling, ride a jet ski or ski.
The central and northern part of Bai Sao is more crowded. There are restaurants and cafes with their own sun beds, umbrellas, changing rooms. Due to the popularity of this place among tourists, the prices for food and drinks in local food outlets are greatly overestimated. The southern part of the beach is not in great demand. There are few people here, usually lovers of solitary rest wander here.
2. “Bai Khem” (Khem Beach)
Tourists who visited the beach “Bai Khem” fall in love with him forever. It is located in the south-eastern part of Fukuoka, a little further from the “Bai Sao”. But if the neighboring coast has at least some infrastructure: restaurants and cafes, changing rooms, sun beds, then “Khem” is still pristinely empty.
In 2017, near the sea, the Marriott hotel was built, quite expensive and cozy, with comfortable rooms. The hotel was designed by famous American architect Bill Bensley. But construction continues, and a huge town is being built next to the hotel from single and high-rise apartments.
The leading position of the hotel “Marriott” is reflected on the beach. To get to the sea can only hotel guests. Strict security does not allow other tourists to the coast. Unhindered access to water is only on the northern stretch of the beach. True, it is not so beautiful, and there is rubbish due to nearby small restaurants. But you can plunge into the water and lie on the sand. The entrance to the sea is shallow, in order to get to a decent depth, you will have to walk a dozen meters from the coast.
Beach “Bai Khem” is located near the village of An Thou. From the center of the island you can take a taxi or take a mini-bus. From the village to the beach are two roads. A good, paved road to the Marriott Hotel, another, gravel, passes by the Military Museum, hotels under construction and ends at the northern part of the beach.
3. “Long Beach” (Long Beach, Bai Truong)
Already from the name “Long Beach” it becomes clear that the beach is quite long. Indeed, a long narrow strip of sand, as if traced along a ruler, stretched along the bay by as much as 10 km. This place is the epicenter of the entire tourist area in Fukuoka. There are a lot of settlements, 95% of island hotels and an international airport located nearby. The main beach of the island is partially free, partly built up with hotels.
The beach is located just south of Duong Dong. On Google maps, it bears the official name of Bai Truong, or “Long Beach.” For the convenience of tourists and the local population, the coast is divided into small areas. Some were named after nearby hotels, and Episode became known because of the annual music festival held on the coast on New Year’s Eve.
You can conditionally distinguish three parts of Long Beach:
- North. Located near Duong Dong. But as noted by many vacationers, the sea here is not very clean. The coastline is narrow.
- Central. Here is the most comfortable part of the “Long Beach”. It is quieter and cleaner. A lot of popular hotels, restaurants and cafes on the sand, shops are located nearby.
- South. Located behind the rocky stretch of coast. On the first line built expensive hotels. It is not as crowded as in the northern part, and more quietly. In the neighborhood there are fishing villages and farms for the extraction of pearls.
There are a lot of restaurants and cafes on the Long Beach, there are bars, local hawkers regularly serve fruits, seafood and soft drinks. So what for the food is not necessary and walk. She will find you herself.
4. “Duong Dong” / “Duong Dong Beach”
This beach is located within the city of Duong Dong, the capital of Fukuoka. Tourists come here, but because of the proximity of the seaport, Duong Dong is not very popular. Although the sea is just as clear and warm here, and along the water’s edge, there is a usual narrow strip of yellow sand. In some places, it narrows even more or fades away due to the structures suitable for the water.
The most popular attraction of this area is Cape Dinh Kau. These are large boulders in the sea near the shore. At the top of the site is the temple of the same name, which can be reached by a narrow staircase. Dinh Kaw Sanctuary appeared in 1937 in honor of the revered goddess Thien Hau, whom the fishermen pray in the hope of a rich catch. Here, on the rock, a lighthouse was built.
5. Ong Lang (Ong Lang Beach)
This beach alone on the western half of the island has a heterogeneous coastline. Plots with soft yellow sand are interspersed with rocky ridges here. What does not prevent “Ong Lang” to be one of the most beautiful coasts of Phu Quoc. There are good conditions for a quiet secluded recreation, there are places where you can go fishing, scuba diving, ride a catamaran or jet ski. Nearby is a karting center with a convenient track, the length of which is 320 meters.
Ong Lang Beach is popular for its clean sea water. Log into the sea flat and comfortable. The strip of sand is narrow, during high tides in some places can completely hide under water. In low season, the sea there are big waves.
Part of the coast is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. Large hotels are not available, there are several small hotels. But in the future this place promises to turn into a tourist center. At the entrance to the beach there are several restaurants and cafes selling local fast food. As many vacationers say, Ong Lange is monitored for cleanliness, garbage is constantly being cleaned.
6. Cua Can Beach
“Kua Kan” was named for the nearby river, which flows into the Gulf of Thailand. This colorful place will appeal to all lovers of the exotic. The beach is located next to the fishing village of Le Bath. Local fishermen often use the seashore to moor their boats and boats.
The Vietnamese call “Kua Kan” the “Bay of Happiness” and believe that thanks to it, they have a rich catch.
The beach stretches along the coast for a kilometer. There is no infrastructure here, no lounges or changing rooms. But the inconvenience is compensated by a large amount of greenery along the coast, yellow fine sand and clear sea, which is convenient to enter. There are few holidaymakers here, and on weekends and holidays the beach is filled with locals. The authorities intend to give this part of the coast for the construction of a tourist center. But you can still soak up the sand in peace and quiet and plenty of nakatatsya.
7. “Bai Vung Bau” (Bai Vung Bau)
A few kilometers of the purest yellow sand on the western half of the island is the “Vung Bao” beach. Crystal-clear water and a gentle entry into the sea is something that you will not surprise experienced tourists. But there is no rubbish here than the Fukuoka beaches sin so often. There are not so many tourists on the coast, but local authorities, who have begun construction of hotels, try to correct this. In the meantime, you can find a lot of secluded places and relax away from civilization.
The southern part of Bai Vung Bao is almost deserted and has no infrastructure. Only sand, sea and palm trees standing on the shore.
The northern suburbs are more civilized. Several hotels are open for tourists, and there are sun beds and umbrellas near the water’s edge. In 2017, the luxurious Fusion Resort Phu Quoc hotel appeared here with comfortable luxury rooms, swimming pools and a private beach with white bulk sand.
8. “Bai Zai” (Bai Dai)
This is the third most popular beach in Fukuoka after Bai Sao and Long Beach. More recently, there was a wild territory, where tourists rarely wandered. In 2008, ABC News news agency called this place the best “secluded beach” in the world. Popularity has played a role, and now many tourists are traveling here. In 2013, the travel channel CNN Travel News has already placed Bai Dai in 93rd place in the ranking of “The hundred best beaches in the world.”
To date, “Bai Zai” is actively being built. As vacationers say, this area is becoming more and more like the famous resorts of the world. Luxury villas, golf courses, artificial lagoons, restaurants and sports facilities are emerging. They promise to build the first one on McDonald’s Island. The largest building on the coast is considered a famous brand hotel. Vinpearl. Many areas of the beach were in the zone of influence of local hotels, but there are also open spaces for everyone.
World fame “Bai Zaya” is still ahead, but for now you can calmly soak up the sand, swim in the clear sea. Active tourists are offered to go diving or go sea fishing. It is possible to rent a yacht and admire the local beauty from the sea, to get to the neighboring Turtle Island. Near the beach is located amusement park Vinpearl Land Phu Quoc, where in the vast territory of 170 thousand square meters. m housed a water park, gaming machines, an aquarium with marine life, shopping street. There are also restaurants on the beach where you can taste local delicacies.
9. “Kgan Dow” (Ganh Dau Beach)
This beach is located almost at the northernmost point of the island. In size it is small, only 50 m in length. But the sea is clean and tourists on the coast are not so often. There are no hotels nearby, but there are restaurants that serve local seafood dishes.
Not every Vietnamese beach has its own historical past. Not far from the coast there is a temple dedicated to Nguyen Trung Truk, an ordinary fisherman and partisan hero who led the fight against the French colonialists. These events occurred in the 60s of the XIX century. In honor of the hero throughout Vietnam built many pagodas. One of them is located in the northern part of Fukuoka.
The next attraction of this part of the island is fish sauce factory, delicacy, the export of which is prohibited from the country. Not far from the sea is the National Park of Phu Quoc.
10. “Bai Rach Vem” (Bai Rach Vem)
This is the name of the beach where a huge number of sea stars live. There is no infrastructure in the southern part of Rush Vema. There are a few flimsy houses on the shore and old hovels in the water, to which wooden piers lead. Some of the buildings are secluded in the sea, and you can get there only by boat. Rest here mostly locals.
The northern half of the Bai Rush Vema is more equipped, there are sun beds under umbrellas, small cafes. The whole beach is distinguished by white fine sand and clear water. The sea at the coast is shallow and warm. It is not enough tourists, and those come to admire sea inhabitants and to get acquainted with a life of local population.
11. “Bai Thom” (Thom Beach)
The American online magazine Thrillist placed this Fukuoka coast in the top of the most beautiful beaches in Southeast Asia. Located “Bai Thom” on the north-eastern edge of the island. Nearby are a small village and forest. The sandy strip on the beach is narrow, like on the whole island. The sea is shallow, in some places there are boulders. But they do not interfere with swimming, but they give charm to the seascape. When ebbing in the sand, you can see all kinds of living creatures: sea stars, crabs, mollusks.
The infrastructure at Bai Thom is absent as such. There are no sights nearby, which makes this place so desirable for those seeking a quiet, remote from civilization, rest. But it’s not always possible to dissociate oneself from this very civilization.
12. “Ham Ninh” (Ham Ninh Beach)
Beach “Ham Ninh” – the eastern side of the island. This place is located 14 km from the main town of Duong Dong. The beach got its name from the Ham Ninh fishing village located on the coast. Most locals live off seafood, commerce and tourists. You can relax here all year round, because even in the rainy season the sea is calm and gentle.
The background for “Ham Ninh” is a low mountain range. The sea in this place is shallow, and it takes a long time to finally dive into the water. Fishermen’s huts and fish traps standing on stilts in the water look amazing.
In the center of the village promenade is a long pier, from which boats leave for the mainland. Here, in the water, there are cafes and restaurants in which, for a small amount of money, they will cook the freshest seafood. On the coast there is a fish market. Some tourists, having bought seafood here, take them to a restaurant for cooking.
13. Bai Wong (Vong Beach)
Beach “Bai Wong” is located on the east coast of the island, 15 km from the main city. Like all similar areas in Fukuoka, “Bai Wong” is gradually turning into one of the most popular holiday destinations. This is due to the proximity to the ferry terminal and the plans of the Vietnamese government to transform these areas into major tourist areas.
You can relax here almost all year round. In the rainy season there are no big waves like on the other side of Fukuoka. The sand on “Bai Wong” resembles pearls in color, the entrance to the water is gentle, comfortable. Along the coast stretches a few restaurants where you can enjoy Vietnamese cuisine. New hotels are being built nearby, so the noise from working cars can somewhat interfere with rest. In the meantime, there are no hotels in this part of the island. As regulars of these places note, jellyfish are occasionally in the sea.
You can get here on highway 48, turning further onto an asphalt road to the sea. Ahead will be a ferry pier, and “Bai Wong” stretches to the left along the coast.
It is worth noting that the tourism industry in Fukuoka began to develop only from the beginning of the XXI century. For a long time the island has been the subject of a dispute between Cambodia and Vietnam. After all, geographically, the island is much closer to the neighboring country. Therefore, there was a restriction of access to these magical paradises. But today the island is gradually turning into one of the popular resorts of Southeast Asia. It may be worth hurrying to still find the clean, virgin beaches of Fukuoka, not spoiled by the invasion of civilization.
