Vung Tau

Vung Tau is the closest beach resort to Ho Chi Minh City. The city is the center of oil production in the country.

Vung Tau is located in the south of Vietnam, on a small peninsula. It is home to a port that plays an important role in Vietnam’s offshore oil industry.

How to get there

A boat will take you from Ho Chi Minh City along the Sai Gon River. You can also get on the 51A expressway in two hours by car or a motorbike.

Rest in Vung Tau

The city, with its fishing fleet and open-air restaurants, is very beautiful. It is quite crowded on weekends, with thousands of people flocking to this place on Saturdays and Sundays from Saigon. But the water here is not very clean. Those wishing to swim in clear water head to Chui Dong, a private beach a few kilometers north of Vung Tau. The owners provide visitors with chairs, tables, and umbrellas.

Holidaymakers tend to stay at Saigon Atlantis. This entertainment complex includes resorts, shops, and a sailing center. Other highlights include the Vung Tàu Aquarium and Bàu Trũng, a Disneyland-style amusement park.

One of the most widely celebrated holidays in Vung Tau is the temple of the god Thang Tam – in honor of St. Kita – the patron saint of fishermen. Various festivals are held in this region: World Culinary, Kites, and others.

Sights of the city

The city has many Buddhist pagodas, temples, and statues. Thich Ca Phat Dai (“Buddha Altar”) and Niet Ban Tinh Xa (“Niet Ban Tinh Ha”, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) attract pilgrims from all over the country.

There are about 14 Catholic parishes with active services in the district. Also worth seeing in Vung Tau is the large statue of Jesus Christ built by Vietnam’s Catholic minority. It has a height of 32 meters and is considered one of the highest in Asia.

When is the best time to go

It is best to come to these places from November to April, at this time there is a dry season, there are no tiring multi-day rains. Summer is also perfect for boat trips, but can be rainy.
